Protect Your Eyes with Comprehensive Eye Exams

Even if you have 20/20 vision, you should always undergo regular eye exams. Comprehensive eye exams do more than just determine your prescription. They are also an essential step in detecting eye conditions and diseases and assessing your overall ocular health.

Because the eyes are closely connected to the systemic system, they are also the least invasive way to check your overall health and discover health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, or cancer.

Our focus is on your comfort and health. Our comprehensive eye exams are thorough as we take the time to thoroughly examine your ocular health and quality of your visual acuity. We aim to provide you with all the tools and knowledge you need to enjoy clear vision and healthy eyes.

The Recommended Eye Exam Frequency

How often you require an eye exam depends on your health and need, determined by your optometrist during your eye exams. However, we recommend that most individuals follow the frequency set by the Canadian Association of Optometrists:

  • Adults aged 20–39: Every 2 to 3 years
  • Adults aged 40–64: Every 2 years
  • Adults 65 and over: Every year

Your optometrist may recommend you undergo eye exams more often if you have an eye disease or health concern that may impact your eyes, such as diabetes or glaucoma.

What’s Covered During an Eye Exam

A comprehensive eye exam involves a series of tests and assessments to determine your eyes’ overall health and provide you with an updated prescription. Along with discussing your medical history and current vision problems or needs, your exam will include tests:

Capturing the Details with Optomap

Optomap retinal imaging is a diagnostic tool used in adult and senior eye exams to provide a comprehensive view of the retina. The optomap system captures a high-resolution image of the retina, which can cover up to 200 degrees of the retina in a single shot.

Optomap retinal imaging is particularly helpful for older adults, as it can help detect early signs of eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and other eye conditions.

Early detection of these conditions is crucial in maintaining healthy vision and preventing vision loss.

Eye Exams Tailored to the Ageing Eye

As we age, our eyes start to show signs of deterioration and the risk of developing eye conditions and diseases increases.

Because many eye diseases can progress with no early symptoms, individuals over 60 need to undergo annual eye exams. These exams help us monitor the eye’s overall health and diagnose and manage many diseases before they cause damage.

Additionally, ageing eyes may need a bit more help to achieve clear vision. Cataracts and presbyopia are common, age-related conditions that lead to vision impairment. They are easily diagnosed during a regular exam and managed with prescription lenses.

Regular eye exams are crucial in maintaining your ocular health and achieving clear vision. Even if you’re healthy and have perfect vision, eye exams should be part of your regular preventive health care regimen.

Please book a comprehensive eye exam today and take the first step in protecting your eyes.
